About Us
Hutchinson’s - truly a family business
Hutchinson’s started as a furniture warehouse in Hastings in 1885. Ray Hutchinson bought the furnishing business in 1950 and in 1960 Hutchinson's moved to its present site in the iconic Spanish Mission-style Hastings Municipal Buildings, just around the corner from the fabulous Hawke’s Bay Opera House. Ray’s son Bryan joined the family business in 1953 and purchased the business from Ray in 1969. Bryan, a former Hastings Councillor and Deputy Mayor, worked extremely hard over many years to build up a loyal clientele, some of whom have been purchasing from Hutchinson’s for decades.
Bryan’s son Nathan now heads up the carpet department and son-in-law Hamish Gibbs manages the furniture department. While fashions and trends may have changed over the years a few things have remained constant, including the staff's dedication to providing excellent customer service. Hutchinson's pride themselves on providing top quality products at fair prices for their clientele in Hawke's Bay and throughout New Zealand.
Hutchinson’s truly is a family business with it’s heart firmly in Hawke's Bay.
